Training Offered
The Wessex Schools Training Partnership (WSTP) is a School Centered accredited provider of Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), it is offering places for secondary level training in all main stream subjects. We are also offering PGCE through Bath Spa University. Applications are made through UCAS, please visit our how to apply section for more info.
Our training programme is designed to equip a person with the skills to work in any one of our secondary schools in the area and in particular in the partnership when vacancies arise.
What does the training involve?
WSTP offer experienced and outstanding teachers, who deliver bespoke training provision for the cohort. This training is delivered in our brand new training suite, at Poole High school and, offers a chance to take the learning and use it immediately with your peers.
This experience is coupled with in school training. During your training year, you will be placed in two of our partnership schools. Here you will immerse yourself in every aspect of the teaching profession. You will be given a mentor, who will meet with you each week to discuss the progress you and the students you teach, are making. You will also deliver 7 hours a week (during your first placement) and 15 hours a week (during your second placement).
Assessment
During the training year you will be assessed in 3 main ways;
1. Teaching ability – you will be observed teaching by numerous people, and graded on the lesson quality and the student progress. Don’t worry though, the grading only starts in your second placement
2. Evidence Portfolio – You will be asked to formulate evidence that you have achieved the teacher standards. This will be an ongoing collection of evidence submitted at the end of the training year.
3. Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) – This is offered and coordinated by Bath Spa University, who travel to us to deliver all the content you will need.
Once all of the above is complete you will gain Qualified Teacher Status and be able to start your teaching journey.
Costs
The training course costs £9250.
You may apply for a student loan to support your training year, and in-demand subjects can receive bursary support.
